Located on a high profile, high traffic corner in Downtown Huntington, your business is sure to be visible. Built in 1896, the ornate stone and brick home on the northeast corner of 5th Avenue and 11th Street is a Victorian delight and over the years was home to two families who played important roles in local history. It was built for Charles W. Campbell, a leading lawyer and legislator who was Huntington's mayor from 1919 to 1922. Two years later, when Campbell retired to his native Monroe County, Dr. Ira Clay Hicks, a prominent physician and surgeon, purchased the house. Like Campbell, Hicks also served in the Legislature. On his death in 1943, the house passed to his daughter, Xilpha Irene Hicks Jones, who lived there until her death in 1982. She bequeathed the house to the First Presbyterian Church. The church then sold it to local businessman Tom Wolf, who painstakingly restored it to house his offices. (ref: Jim Casto) The Campbell Hicks House was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. It is an example of the Free Classic style in the Queen Anne period and features a slender 2 story cantilevered rounded tower. The full front porch has a 5 sets of paired fluted columns with iconic capitals. The property has an original Vermont slate roof. The owner has reviewed the options for replacing with slate or Certainteed Highland Slate designer architectural shingle with a lifetime warranty. Within the scope of the job, the choice of roof product as well as repair of gutter system and soffits would be repaired as well as a membrane cover over the porches. These options and prices can be negotiated with an acceptable offer.
